Meet Patricia W. O’Connor, MD

Board-certified dermatologist, Patricia W. O’Connor, graduated magna cum laude from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia with a Bachelors of Science degree in Biochemistry. Dr. O’Connor then received her Medical Degree from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia in 2012.

While in medical school, Dr. O’Connor was awarded a research grant from VCU to spend a year in Brisbane, Australia at the Queensland Institute of Medical Research. Dr. O’Connor compiled research on the genetic risk factors of melanoma, the financial burden of skin cancer on the Australian health care system, and new technology for mole mapping. In her final year of medical school, she was awarded the Susan Mellette scholarship for dedication to skin cancer prevention.

Following her graduation from medical school, Dr. O’Connor remained at Virginia Commonwealth University for her Dermatology residency where she served as the Chief Resident her final year.

Dr. O’Connor is dedicated to skin cancer prevention, treatment, and detection. She is an expert in medical and surgical dermatology. Dr. O’Connor treats all skin conditions, medical and cosmetic, in both adults and children. Dr. O’Connor is married to Dr. James O’Connor, who is completing his fellowship in Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Patricia and Jim live in Birmingham with their corgi, Wallace.
