Meet Dr. Abele
Matt Abele, M.D. is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon who has been in practice since 1994. Dr. Abele completed his residency at University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill and his Mohs Micrographic Fellowship at the Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, California. After moving to Birmingham, he began practicing at Norwood Clinic at Carraway Hospital. Dr. Abele participated in Carraway Hospital's Residency Training Program, educating Internal Medicine and Family Practice Residents in dermatology.
In 2003, he relocated his practice to St. Vincent’s-Birmingham. Dr. Abele specializes in skin cancer detection, treatment and surgery. He has specialized training in Mohs Micrographic Surgery, which is a highly specialized skin cancer surgery for high risk and difficult skin cancers. Dr. Abele enjoys the combination of surgery and pathology that defines Mohs surgery and the challenge of removing difficult tumors.
Dr. Abele is in our office on Mondays and works with our patients doing Mohs Micrographic Surgery.
