Dr. Jacobson and Dr. Marks at Inverness Dermatology and Laser provide cosmetic dermatological services to patients in Hoover, Birmingham and Chelsea Alabama areas.
Inverness Dermatology and Laser offers Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) for patients concerned with:
— Precancerous cells
— Sun damage
What is PDT?
PDT is a medical treatment that uses a photosensitizing topical medication, called Levulan (becomes activated by light exposure), and a light source to activate the applied drug. This results in an activated oxygen molecule that can destroy nearby cells.
Am I a good candidate for PDT?
At present, PDT penetration is limited to about 1/3 of an inch of the light source. This means that tumors or atypical growths must be close to the surface of the skin for treatment of PDT to work. In your consultation, our providers will review your medical history and talk about your PDT goals.
Can I afford PDT?
Depending on your reason for photodynamic therapy, some insurance companies won’t cover the cost. Inverness Dermatology works with many insurance providers to ensure patients get their dermatology needs covered if at all possible. Check with your insurance provider before coming to Inverness Dermatology to educate yourself on what your plan covers for cosmetic dermatology. Inverness Dermatology and Laser also offers a variety of financing options.
